– Flu-related costs to employers in 2012-13 was $30.4 billion – three times the $10.5 billion impact found in 2010-11
– More than 11 million vacations were interrupted or canceled (a 300 percent increase over 2010-11) as flu season peaked at the height of the holidays

In comparison to a more typical flu season, 2012-13 had two to three times the negative impact on the workplace, school, family and other segments of people’s everyday lives. Given the current number of reported cases and flu-related deaths, this year’s flu season may prove to be just as bad, if not worse.
